Details: This stately table retains much of its exceptional original gilt and ebonized decoration, antique velvet writing surfaces, and gilt on black and black line decoration around edges of the writing surfaces. The pedestal is paneled and ebony- and gilt-line decorated. It sits on fine acanthus leafage-capped lions' paw feet on caster wheels. This magnificent example of New York Classical furniture has gilt border designs and other decoration of acanthus leafage, flowers, and fruit identical to the decoration on the well-known Joseph Meeks and Sons-attributed ebonized and gilded secretary bookcase in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
