Philadelphia Federal Dressing MirrorStatus: Sold General Description: A Fine and Rare Federal Carved and Inlaid Mahogany Shield or Vase Form Dressing Glass, on Boldly Shaped Horse , Satin or Boxwood line inlay, Original Glass, Tulip Poplar Backboard, and Lion Mask Brass Pulls, Probably Philadelphia, circa 1785. Details: This Dressing Glass is similar to but more sophisticated in form than one illustrated in Hornor's Blue Book of Philadelphia Furniture. Cf. also Montgomery, American Furniture: The Federal Period, Plate 249, pp. 284-285 for another similar but less desirable example. The secondary wood places it south of New England and the design probably north of Baltimore. Dimensions: H: 24 inches (top to bottom); 21 inches (mirror frame); W: 19 ½ inches; D: 10 inches.
