General Description: A Rare and Beautiful Silver Wirework Fruit Basket, made and marked by "Marquand & Co. New York", circa 1834. This handsome form was popular with New York's elite during the Federal and Classical periods.
Details: It has been finely made by a respected NY silversmith of the period. Oval body with intertwined, outward-flared wirework sides; applied "vintage" border of overlapping grapes, leaves, and vines on upper edge. Shallow, molded base with oakleaf and floral border, and applied vintage pattern leafage and vine-decorated handle. Four large pierced feet with leaf and flower decoration. Diameter: 11-1/2 inches; height: 4-1/2 inches;to handle:10 inches. Weight: 46.8 oz.
